A Tiny Speck
there is nothing like open water to bring home the fact that you are, well, a tiny speck in a vast ocean, world, universe.
There could be 1,000 leagues of water underneath or just 3 meters its all the same if you are out of your depth. But being out of depth is often safer in lochs and rivers as there will be less debris and fallen branches in the centre of the water. We do actually float, just saying...
So here I am being a tiny spec in Loch Ken cos I can't find the photo from wednesday. But we were tiny specs in that too!
Lunderston was a micro adventure. From our new house, I knew I could get the train to the dentist in Greenock, so after a wee bit of hesitation and making excuses, I hopped on the Brompton (amazing folding bicycle, see my Create with Fibre and Knit 1 Bike 1 blog for its adventures round Scotland) cycled to the station and went on a low carbon jaunt.
Train to Greenock - with knitting of course -then a nosh up in the Church cafe, gluten free French toast with crispy bacon and banana, yum.
The only glitch was that Greenock West station has two flights of stone steps up to street level and no other way out. Glad I was on the Brompton not the e-bike! But why no announcements or info on the app oh Scotrail? Someone in a wheelchair would have been stranded!
A lovely cycle from there to Lunderston Bay and amazing swim with Irene. I wish I could show you the view under the water, so clear.
The post swim cycle gear worked a treat. An extra, thin fleece and cycle arm amd leg warmers from Aldi. But the battery warming belt was the best thing ever. Cycling can cool you down even more after a swim because of the wind chill. Walking on the other hand warms you up. The soup and chips at the garden centre cafe might have helped too. Not a great post swim venue in winter as it can be chilly, as I found out last time. But great this time of year and a huge menu with the best cakes ever.
The cycle to Lunderston hugs the coast and is virtually all off road if you are interested.
And even a handy picnic table to chain the bike to and get changed.
